The Praga R1, part of the Driver's Pack, will release this December on RaceRoom.
The Praga R1 is a special car to me. I have been following Jimmy Broadbent's story as a "degenerate sim racer," for a few years now, and love his content. In 2021, he was given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to race this car in the Britcar Endurance championship, and he took that chance and ran with it. Taking two emotional wins in the last couple of races of 2021, the 2022 season looked to be more of the same. However, it wasn't. It was so, so much better, with Jimmy and teammate Gordie Mutch taking the title home at the last race of the season. It really is a fairytale story, going from living in a shed at the end of his Mum's garden, to a proper racing driver.
That magical car is now coming to RaceRoom in their new Driver's Pack - releasing this December - with Jimmy and other drivers' feedback in order to make sure it is an authentic recreation within the sim.
“It’s fantastic to see such an accurate model of the Praga R1 on a platform that is well established but also really accessible to sim racers!”
- Chris Bridle, UK Praga Product and Operation Specialist
The version within R3E is the 2022 version, the latest model. It weighs an incredible 660kg but has a punchy 365hp from a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder taken out of the Formula Renault. The corners are where it excels though. It has similar amounts of downforce to an LMP2 and can pull up to 3G under hard braking. Over a lap, they have a similar pace to a GT3, but the respective cars' strengths lie in different areas; the big heavy GT3s can blast on past on the straights; get to the braking and corners, however, and the R1 drives circles around the lumbering GTs.
All the liveries are from the '22 Praga UK cup, and the bodywork makes them all look fantastic! Will you be driving this new car when it releases? I certainly can't wait!
“It's been awesome working with Raceroom to bring our Praga to the sim world. The detail on this car is amazing and honestly it's surreal to see it recreated to this level in sim!”
- Jimmy Broadbent, 2022 Praga UK championship winner, and all-round cool guy
