When the original Cars movie dropped in 2006, it was an instant hit and certified classic, with both licensed cars and real racing drivers doing voiceover, such as Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton - both in the original and sequels. ‘Sally’ was a 2002 Porsche Carrera that became McQueen’s unforgettable sidekick. Announced via a post on their Instagram, Porsche and Pixar have collaborated once again in the making of real life Sally, with a one off Porsche 911 Sally Special. It is based off the 2022 911 Carrera GTS.
"We decided early on that we wanted to create a completely drivable 911 – inspired by Sally Carrera, but just not an exact copy. Sally Carrera loves to drive – that was our inspiration. We asked ourselves: if Sally were built today as a road-approved model, what would she look like?"
- Jay Ward, Creative Designer of Franchise Of Pixar Animation Studios
The five spoke wheels – one of the main links to the movie car – were specifically made for this project. The five arm design was adapted to match the 21″ rims from the donor car. The custom blue colour ‘Sallybluemettalic’ was hand-applied to the car for the final look, with Sally’s tattoo on her rear engine cover also being implemented for the final touch.
The final car will be auctioned by RM Sotheby for two Charites: the UNHCR Refugees and Girlsinc. All proceeds go towards these two charities. Find out more and enquire about the auction here.
