The worldwide movement towards electrification has caused many in the ICE modification scene to worry that this may be the start of the end for personal car modification. The way electric motors and batteries work and create movement is still widely not understood, and because of this misunderstanding, we cannot bond with our EVs on a one to one basis like we can on our cars of yesterday. We bond with cars because we understand how they work, and how we wrench on our cars for hours.

However, I believe that modification of our personal cars will not begin to slow. Today, if we wish to modify our car’s performance, we most probably would begin with an exhaust, turbos or intercooler. Obviously on an electric motor we cannot do this, so therefore I believe performance led modifications will begin to lean towards aerodynamic and chassis modification. As understanding of electric motors increases, the engine modification scene may begin to regrow. Some may even argue this is a good turn, that some thought must go into car performance, not just piling more and more power into it. Over the air software updates from the likes of Polestar could lead the way for a 3rd party market of personal updates, in the name of extra horsepower.
However this is just my 2 cents, so if you gave a different opinion, tell us in the comments!
